Okay, I have to admit, I didn't know what a Boppy was until a year before I had Emma. I started hearing about it from friends who were having babies. Now I am very familiar with the wonderful benefits it provides.
Essentially, its a U-Shaped pillow. Its soft yet solid and durable. The Boppy is great for positioning your newborn, as well as supporting your baby while you are feeding.
The Boppy is easy to wash and there are tons of neat patterned Boppy covers available.
Emma has used the Boppy over the last 9 months in numerous ways. When she was a newborn we would put her in it and be able to entertain her or have our hands free to play with her. Around 2-3 months we used it to give her tummy time to build up her neck and arm muscles. When she was 4-5 months she could climb over it, at 6 months we used it to prop her up as she was learning to sit and at 8-9 months she has found it is a soft pillow that is fun to bounce on and crawl over.
Whether at home or away, the Boppy is a great tool to have in your baby arsenal.

Itzbeen-Baby Care Timer
When I heard the product name for the first time I thought is that German for something? Now, I can tell you it is English for "life saver".
When we first had Emma we quickly learned not only did we have to stay on top of all of Emma's feedings, but remember to feed ourselves. It is amazing that the simple basic task of eating at some point throughout the day escapes your parent brain when you are taking care of a newborn.
The Itzbeen has numerous functions, but essentially it helps you track diaperings, feedings, sleep and miscellaneous tasks. It has four buttons, one each for diaper change, nursing or feeding, sleep or awake and medication or another task.
You simply press the button each time you do one of the tasks and the timer starts. We fed Emma every two hours in the beginning so if we had seen on the Itzbeen that we were getting close to that time, we could pre-plan in case we about to go somewhere or if it was about time for Emma's nap.
Added benefits of the Itzbeen, it has a soft-glow nightlight, which acts like a flashlight, and trust me you will get good use out of it, especially when you are tip toeing around the room in the dark trying not to wake the baby. It has a nursing reminder that allows you to remember the last side you fed from. It also has a backlight so you can see in the dark the times the Itzbeen is reporting.
There are also optional alarms if you prefer to be alerted when time is approaching the next feeding or diapering. The Itzbeen has a handy clip so you can clip it to your diaper bag or wear it. And another great feature is a lock that keeps the Itzbeen buttons from being pressed by accident while its in your bag or pocket.
We have used the Itzbeen every day since Emma was born and it is like having a second brain- a brain that isn't sleep deprived.
The Itzbeen comes in Blue (which actually looks more purple-we have this color and love it), Green and Pink.

Welcome glad you could join me! Just a little bit about myself and my purpose for this blog. As a new mom of a beautiful 8.5 month old girl, Emma, I have found myself looking around the house lately and thinking to myself, boy am I glad we bought that or boy I had no idea how handy that would become. In discussions with friends and family who are expecting or hope to be shortly, I have found I have been able to impart a lot of Baby Needs...advice.
So my goal is to everyday list an item that we purchased, prior to, or after Emma was born and explain why we felt it was necessary and/or how we have relied on it. I am setting the blog up so that if you are interested in the item you can click on the picture and it will take you to a site where it can be purchased. This is also a great site to share with friends and family you know that are expecting or to use as a possible registry list to get you started.
Feel free to comment at any time and also provide any item suggestions that I may have missed.
Hope you enjoy, cause Baby Needs A New...
